Submission Guidelines

Accepted forms of submission:

Short Fiction: between 100 and 2,000 words. Submissions may be extracted from a collection, so long as they also function as standalone pieces. Foreign language submissions are accepted, provided that the original text and translation (to be provided by the author) total no more than 2,000 words when combined. Short Non-Fiction: between 100 and 2,000 words. In the event that you choose to use real names in your piece, please okay this with all relevant parties before submitting to the magazine; the editors do not take any responsibility for such matters. Foreign language submissions are accepted, provided that the original text and translation (to be provided by the author) total no more than 2,000 words when combined. Poetry: up to three poems may be submitted, totalling no more than 70 lines. Foreign language submissions are accepted, provided that the original text and translation (to be provided by the poet) total no more than 70 lines when combined. Artwork: any kind of art, so long as the scan or photo is clean. If you are submitting a series that encompasses several pieces, please state so clearly. Photography: a single image or series of up to 4 images. We select one photo per edition to be used as cover art - please state clearly in your email if you do not wish for a certain image to be used for this purpose.

Information for all submissions:

All submissions should be emailed to kamenamagazine@gmail.com with a subject line identifying the email as a submission for the relevant edition (e.g. "Archie Baughan submission for Edition 23") Writers are invited to make one submission per edition to any two different categories. Any additional submissions may be added to our backlog, and we may contact you about publishing your submission in a future edition. Written submissions should be attached to the email in a Word document or Google Docs. If using Docs, please ensure that editing permissions are set correctly. Text should be in 12pt Calisto MT, with spacing set to 1.15. For artwork and photography submissions, please attach images as separate JPEG or PNG files. Submissions should also include a brief author's note (no more than 70 words) giving brief context of the work and/or its writer. The author's note should be written in first person. If you are currently a student, we encourage you to mention this in your note. Please specify in your email the name you would like to be published under (e.g. Archie Baughan, Archie B, A. Baughan, etc). Submissions may also be published anonymously at the writer's request. Pieces that do not fall into any of the categories specified above may be submitted, however may be rejected at the editors' discretion if they are not deemed suitable for the magazine. We aim to respond to submissions within a week of the submission deadline. If you have not heard back within this time, let us know. Any piece that has been rejected in the past may be resubmitted to a later edition. We offer feedback upon request, and highly encourage writers to ask for it. We accept work from young and unpublished writers and artists, be they current, past or prospective Warwick students, or individuals not associated with the university. We do not accept any work using generative AI.
